Toads

Toads and frogs are beneficial to a garden.
They can each eat up to 1000 bugs a day.
To encourage the use of your toadhouse:

• Place your toadhouse in a cool, shady spot.  These critters do not like the sun.
• Make sure your toadhouse always had an open bottom.  Toads and frogs like to burrow in the dirt so it helps to loosen the soil under their house.
• Provide good loamy soil.  Mulch around  the outside to help keep it cool. Place a shallow bowl of water nearby so they can bathe and keep their skin moist.  It is necessary!
• A light, no higher than 2 feet, placed near their home will help to attract bugs for them to feed on.
• Discourage the kids from chasing or handling them.  They don't like it. and will go away if this happens.
• Minimize the use of chemicals around their area.  This can be fatal.  Besides, they will kill the bugs!
